Sing With Us

  • Do you like to sing?
  • Did you sing in high school?
  • Were you a member of a chorus or vocal ensemble in college?
  • Do you miss those days?
  • Or maybe you sing in a church or classical ensemble and would like a new vocal experience.

Then you are the person we have been looking for.

You do not have to read music, you do have to love to sing!

On your first visit, you are welcome to sit back and listen. And … there will be chances to sing with a quartet and to sing on the risers with the chorus. Our director will give you a preliminary voice placement, and one of our members will be your ‘buddy’ for the evening. We give our guests a binder with all our current repertoire to use that evening. There is no pressure to join. Feel free to try us out for several weeks before deciding if you want to join.

For more information on how to become a member of A Cappella York, contact us at info@acyork.ca or go to the Contact Us page.

Free Orientation Program

Would you like to try 4-part a cappella harmony singing?
Join us for a free, no obligation program taking place over 5 weeks.  The only requirement is that you can sing a simple song, like Happy Birthday or O Canada, after which your appropriate singing part will be identified. You will then be provided with a binder of our current repertoire for your use that evening and assigned a ‘buddy’ who will provide support to ensure the process is smooth.

Here’s how  your first few weeks will go.
You will begin our 4-5-week program, which consists of a little bit of musical theory to give you an insight into what distinguishes our style of singing from other types of music, vocal strategies to help you adapt to the a cappella style of singing, techniques of breath control, how to blend your voice with the other parts. Along the way, various members of the Management Team, supported by other key people, will explain the structure of the International Barbershop Harmony Society and it’s various components, including our Chapter; and, the membership fees and policies applicable to becoming a member.

If, and when, you become a member of A Cappella York, you will be provided with access to all music and professionally-recorded learning tracks…featuring your part predominant as well as a mix of all 4 voice parts…and you will be provided with a one-on-one tutorial showing you how to use these tracks most successfully.

All said and done, there will be plenty of singing and you will have the opportunity to join the chorus each week to see for yourself the camaraderie and fun that goes on while making great harmony together.  Use our Contact Us page to find out more about this exciting opportunity.
